PERFORMANCE:
The UE Pep Squad opens the competition with an "ethnic" theme. An inspired from Southern Philippines. The formations were good but pyramids were not executed properly. Needs some polishing on choreo and stunts.

CHARGE-BACK performance from the FEU Cheering Squad with "Chinese Yin-Yang" inspired. It was a strong routine but pyramids were not perfectly executed.

The UP Pep Squad came a little bit short from last year's routine but this year an extreme stunts and awe performance. With theme of "pride" and "equality", they have the energy and the executions were all clean. They have the power and strength.

That was an awesome performance from Salinggawi Dance Troupe. First minute of the routine already impresses the heart of the audience. Likewise in FEU, they also have "Dynasty" from Chinese bloodstream theme. I would say the pyramids were death-defying. Almost perfect performance.

As per Chris Newsome it's more on waves, the Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion have this "Sailors" or "Nautical" theme. So far they have clean routine except the pyramids. I'm sorry but I find it boring with clear errors. One mistake matters especially for pyramid.

The DLSU Animo Squad, is going out of this world. An "Army of the Universe" inspired, song choices were okay, self-centered from their theme. They started strong but had major problems with passes section and the sequence of pyramids. More errors also in tumbling.

The Adamson Pep Squad nailed it coming from the "Pirates" theme. They have the energy and the vibe. Perfect choice of songs as it shadows to their chosen theme. I love the performance, minimal error and overall it was a clean routine.

Save the best for last, the NU Pep Squad is a strong candidate for bark-to-back crown from their "Native American" theme. They have the best routine, stunts, and pyramid. Perfect execution!

27 RITZMAN PRIVATE RESORT: AFFORDABLE AND RECOMMENDED RESORT IN PANSOL, LAGUNA

Dining Area and the Sala
Indeed, it’s always summer in Pansol. Last weekend the team decided to have a quick break from chaotic office works. Since we do not have enough leaves and it’ll just a quick escape over the weekend so we decided to conquer Pansol.

Pansol is about 34 miles south of Manila or about an hour and half drive and houses numerous hot spring resorts. This is the closest place to host your quick getaway, perfect for family, friends, and colleagues. It is situated in Calamba which makes the City known as the Resort Capital of the Philippines. I've been here a couple of times checking in from public to private resorts. Well I know everyone does.

Parking Area and Veranda
This time since it's off-peak season, we decided not to make any reservation. It will only cost you a lot of money, but instead if you have your own or rented car you can go there and look for private resort. We all know Pansol is pack with private pools that are adjacent to each other. I assure you, you can find one in a short period of time especially during off-peak season. It will only just a matter of how you bargain depending on your budget.

When we get there, we've been inquiring about five private resorts but the rent is too high. Take note we were only eight and our budget is ranging from Php 3,000 to 4,000. Prior to our inquiries, their standard price starts at Php5,000 and up. Fortunately Ritzman Resort agreed with our budget plus an extended time. I think all resorts with an overnight accommodation only allow guests to stay until 6AM. Ate Sally allowed us to stay until 10AM so we can have breakfast before going home.

ABOUT THE RESORT:
Ritzman is I think a family vacation house converted into a private resort that can accommodate up to 20 persons. It has a wide garage space that can accommodate up to five cars. They have lawn garden beside the pool and has small pavement going inside the house with multiple door entrance. Their Veranda is also huge, with two sofa sets, one is wooden with plastic chairs and the other is made of rattan painted in white with cushions. It has also a modern design rattan center table with glass on top.

Likewise in Veranda, Sala has also a sofa-set made of rattan where the dining round table is on the side. They also have a huge sized window with foam so you can also rest and perhaps sleep.

It is two storey-house where rooms are located at the second floor. There are two rooms with one common restroom, and master bedroom with own comfort room. Each room can accommodate up to 6 persons. All three rooms are air-conditioned. Unfortunately I can't provide any picture of the room to excuse our mess. Lol. They're all scattered on the floor.

They also have the Videoke machine which already inclusive in your payment. But in case you're cooking, you have to pay extra Php 200 for gas. They have big kitchen and utensils and those are free of use. They also have refrigerator so you can store your foods and alcoholic beverages, an outdoor kitchen in case you want to grill with your favorite grilling recipes.

The Pool size is not that small, about half of an olympic sized-pool with 6 feet deep. It's just a lukewarm  water which is perfect for a night swimming. No need for a hot spring, since it's not raining at all.

Here are some of the pictures of Ritzman Private Resort, I'm so sorry for a poor quality of pictures. These are all taken from my camera phone. Just in case you want to see more, you can click this link.

HOW TO GET HERE:
I’m sure everyone knows how to get to Pansol. Let’s say you are already in the vicinity, you can ask from Ushers, those people wearing blue with “private resort” placards, they do assist visitors for free. Ask them where is Mira Monte Village. It’s only along Pansol Highway. Or I would suggest call Ate Sally from contact information so they can meet you up.

0 THAILAND: TWO FACES OF KHAO SAN ROAD (KSR)

One our way to Khao San Road via Taxi.
Yes, Khao San Road is a “Backpacking Ghetto of South East Asia”, a well-deserved moniker because of the entire street that is huddled with guest houses, hostels, and the cheapest inns. Now the road is home of night clubs, entertainment bars and houses, street entertainers, tailors, shops, street vendors, and many more. Obviously, it's like an economic chain -- supply goes where the demand is.

Honest to goodness, Khao San is part of our itinerary not to experience with the bang bang go go dancers but to embrace the nightlife party in downtown Bangkok.  According to my research, when the night comes to peak don’t be surprised with pimps inviting you to watch their "ping-pong show". They're beyond forceful to get more customers, especially foreign tourists.

HOW TO GET THERE:
BTS Sky Train is a good choice to travel around Bangkok; however there is no BTS around KSR (Khao San Road). Your option is either take cab or bus from Silom Road. It will take about 30 minutes to an hour to get to KSR but still depending on traffic. I would recommend taking cab. Our initial point is from Petchaburi so it would take miles going there, that’s why we decided taking cab. We bargained it for 200Baht, which is not bad for three. I dunno, for some reason, cab drivers do not use their taxi meters for foreign tourists. Therefore everything is just a matter of haggling.

Authentic Kuay Thiaw Pad Thai at KSR.
We arrived around 8PM and the moment we step out the cab after nearly 20 minutes ride, the sky started to drizzle but feels like nobody cares. They’re just walking like there’s a sun scorching to one’s skin. The flashing neon lights were so bright coming from different clubs. Madness crowds passing by going to no directions. Their faces were shining and hairs were wet as the rain poured heavily at that moment. We got no choice but to find a shed. But instead of just standing waiting the rain to stop, we decided to drink beer with an authentic Kuay Thiaw Pad Thai.

About half an hour later, rain hasn’t stop yet and I thought I will only devour for a single bottle, but since we’re getting there and the spirit started to flow into the veins, we decided to order another one. Their Leo Beer is kinda sweet although there’s the taste of authentic beer but it's less a beer but more a soda. It's drinkable though, kind of drink that won't knock you out. Chang is better. However their Pad Thai is the best! It's really pleasing to your taste. I have nothing to say, I've tasted it a couple of times back in Manila but when I tasted it there, it's really different. Delicioso!!!

Thailand's Leo Beer.
After our early drinking session, we explored the whole street; you will definitely feel the brazenness of KSR at night. The atmosphere is flourishing coming from the crowd, diverse music that will never be composed in the same tune. This place never seems to experience a moment of silence. The heavy rain seems stopped but still drizzling. We got no umbrella, good thing that when we came across Zalora’s awesome collection of Jansport products, we got this backpack, very light and a good protection for our gadgets being wet.

Busy street of Khao San Road.
It's raining, but the atmosphere is so alive.
One of the highlights of our KSR experience is tasting exotic foods, those delectable crawlies. And by the way you are not allowed to take picture unless you have to pay 10Baht, or eat one of those enticing foods for 100Baht then you can take pictures.  Ariel bought Scorpion and tasted it, I took picture myself, not in my tummy to try one of those cockroaches, maggots, scorpions, grasshoppers, caterpillars, etc . But I think I can do it, it’s like crunchilicious.

Delectable Selections of your Favorite Crawlies.
How does it tastes Ariel?
Come and Get me!! Crunchy Scorpions.
I'm ready for you! Eat me!!
Fried Grasshoppers. Looks delicious, what yah think?
After exploring the whole place, walking from one end to another end, we decided to check on those drinking bars. That time, FIFA was still on going in Brazil. Aside from loud music, there were huge flat screen TV sets showing football matches in high-definition. I didn’t know Thai are passionate with football. In fact, they do wear uniforms with their favorite teams. We ordered one bucket of San Miguel Beer, our very own, and it’s expensive than their local beers. We sat near the pavement on the street side.

There were hip-hop dancers dancing to the beat of whatever being played. They’re really good dancers, then afterwards they will be asking some donations using their caps. There were some football exhibitions, and different entertainers along the street. We were just watching and observing how’s Thailand by night. I love the mood and energy, it is indeed a place that never sleeps. One bucket is enough to just sit and watching how life goes by with Thai people.

Where's the Lucky Beer? I love it here.
We were also invited to try Coke’s limited promo; our face will be printed on the labels. We paid 100Baht and they gave us Coke in a bottle with our faces, and limited aluminum bottles in FIFA edition.

Limited Aluminum Coke (FIFA 2014) in a box, and 240ML plastic bottle with our faces.
I’m sure given a chance; I want to go back here to explore more. This is the face of another KSR. Hopefully I would have plenty of time to explore those exciting things. This place won’t cause any pain on your pocket, everything is affordable. They have the easy lifestyle and friendliness of the locals. I have to try the foot massage that we haven’t experienced.

32 COMPLIMENTARY OVERNIGHT STAY FROM "ONE TAGAYTAY PLACE". IS IT A SCAM OR NOT?

I’m sure you would be very happy and very lucky if you received a complimentary hotel stay for two. It would be a perfect getaway and an awesome overnight stay. I know hotels are doing it especially for advertisement purposes or special occasion. One example is One Tagaytay Place Hotel Suites in Tagaytay City. I just won a complimentary overnight accommodation and that makes me feel really lucky. However I was thinking how did I win? Did I really win?

A friend of mine returned home to celebrate his birthday. He wishes to do it in Tagatay. We went there for lunch and had a quick fun at SkyRanch and then there’s a girl giving out vouchers for 50% discount at One Tagaytay Place. It was a real perfect timing. So when I get home I called reception from the number listed to confirm if it’s a valid or not. It was actually valid, the girl gave me the cut price half of the original one however the rate is still not affordable for me. I'm so poor.

After a couple of days I thought I’m done with this hotel, I received call from unregistered number and then introduced herself as “Rhaine”. She enthusiastically telling me that I just won a gift certificate from this hotel, an overnight stay for two. Honestly I was glad and excited and I’m not surprised how they got my number. I'm sure that was when I called them regarding the validity of the voucher.

Day to day, I have received calls from this number reminding me not to forget my schedule when to get the gift certificate. They also advised that we should stay there in Ortigas office for a 90 minute presentation with free cocktail buffet. And I said that’s fine, in exchange for an overnight stay for two why not?

When the day arrived, they prompted me again via text message to be there 30 minutes before time; I was scheduled at 2PM. From that moment, I was kinda thinking why they're very persistent? So I called the reception desk again straight in Tagaytay office to confirm if their Ortigas office has this kind of presentation that they invite people with buffet and something. The girl confirmed that yes, which is part of promotions.

I thought I’m already okay but there’s a feeling of apprehension, I don’t wanna be victimized again to any kind of modus. Once, twice, thrice those are enough from networking groups. So I checked forums over the web if One Tagaytay Place has this kind of activities and if it’s legit.

And here's what I found and seems like her story is the same as what's they're telling me..

Now I’m not sure if it’s a scam or not. I’m not sure also if they’re really related to One Tagaytay Place Hotel Suites. However when I called their desk and received some confirmation, then it will make you realize. I’m not posting this article against One Tagatay Place Hotel itself, but I’m posting this to save people’s time, the money and effort. And I guess this is something One Tagaytay Place should clear.

After I messaged them that I’m not coming and not interested anymore and sharing the URL above, I received text message again (second photo). Nahhh..how persistent are they.

If you have the same experience, receiving text messages or even make it to the venue. Please share your story below comment.

0 Gilas Pilipinas wins against Senegal in FIBA World Cup 2014

Courtesy of FIBAonBTV
After four matches, Gilas Pilipinas finally received its first win against powerhouse Senegal. Although our hope for the round of 16 is no longer with us at least our team will go back home with a single win. Well I would say all of the matches with Gilas were all closed with a single digit deficit except Greece. A heartbreaking loss but already showed a heart of a champion after 4 decade not in the world stage.

Courtesy of FIBA.com
Gilas Pilipinas downed Senegal at the final score of 80 – 79 in Overtime after tied at 64 at the end of regulation. The Philippines showed relentless action with their last game. At the end of first quarter, Senegal was on the lead at the score of 19-13. However the Philippines was determined to win the game. Gilas Pilipinas finished the first half leading at the score of 37-24, then 49-44 at the end of third quarter. The lead started with a raining basket from the three point line back to back to back courtesy of Blatche, Lee, and the captain, the Mighty Mouse himself Jimmy Alapag.

Team Captain Jimmy Alapag and naturalized player Andray Blatche both scored 18 points. The Beast, June Mar Fajardo, had an impressive performance after posting 15 points and 9 rebounds. He also inserted all heart fathom with the other players.

At fourth quarter, Fajardo made a crucial dunk followed by layup from Blatche to give the Philippines 64 – 61 lead. But Senegal trailed the score tied at 64 after trey in 33 seconds.

After the chance of victory at the end of regulation, the team didn’t allowed the lead back to Senegal. They’re gaining momentum, Gilas opens triple opening the overtime for 67-64 lead. Alapag, Blatche and The Kraken worked together to give a victory for the Philippines.

We may not enter the 2nd round but the Philippines had the most exciting games in this tournament. It’s a priceless victory. The 34th ranked team gave a heart beating and thrilling games to the top caliber teams in the world.

This would be the second time for the Philippines and in FIBA 2014 for an overtime match at the elimination round. Now with their last game, give it to us, it feels like we won the Championship in FIBA World Cup. After today, Gilas Pilipinas will fly back home and then proceed its journey to the Asian Game in Incheon, Korea.

And to Spain 2014 spectators, Filipinos are the people with the biggest heart and fighting hard for the pride of the country. Thank you for making the Philippines part of the tournament. No matter what happens, I am effing proud Filipino. We hope that there would wildcard for the Round of 16. Congratulations and goodluck to all teams who made it to the next round. See you next time in FIBA 2019, it might be held here in Manila, Philippines.

1 Gilas Pilipinas after Three Matches in FIBA World Cup 2014

Gilas Pilipinas hasn’t won any single match yet after facing three of the top powerhouse teams in the world. However the undersize Pinoys shows a big heart with every match. They may have lost but never lost any fans, in fact, they have earned more admirers not just in the country but now in the world.

The Philippines gave a heart pounding game against Croatia. It is one of the best ever play in Philippine basketball history. Though the Philippine National Team lost to this highly ranked team at 78 – 81 in overtime yet they gave a huge scare at the start up to end of regulation. That was a great effort for the team. Gilas falls just short but for us it's already a winner.

The second match still in Seville, Spain was against the mighty Greece. Gilas Pilipinas received its second straight loss in 82 – 70. This highly-ranked Greek team, 5th in FIBA World Ranking exhibited over the Philippine team in five-inch height advantage. Nevertheless, we are proud to be matched with one of the World’s greatest team. We never made it easy for this Greek team and this is something we should be proud of. Tambak bang maiturong ang labindalawang puntos?

And the most effing match with Gilas Pilipinas is against the third-ranked team in the world, The Argetine. The Philippines led the first half at 25 – 22 but Argentina controlled the game in the third and fourth quarter.  Although the Philippines tumbles to third straight loss 85 - 81 yet it is one of the best game in FIBA World Cup 2014. Argentina barely survived the defense of the National team. I would say that this is the best match so far in Spain 2014. It was electrifying as the mighty mouse himself Jimmy Alapag trailed and thrilled Argentine crowd. He gave a hope to sleepless Filipinos watching the game in almost midnight, local time.

Aside from unparalleled performance of the Team Captain, National Team wingman Gabe Norwood also pulls attention in social media as he posterized a pair of dunks against longtime Argentina star Luis Scola. And that made him remained a trending topic on twitter. It makes the Philippine Basketball beyond the world’s expectation. It’s enough reason to be proud and happy for the team. Gilas team indeed continues to receive praises from Basketball fanatics.

With two remaining games in their group phase, the Philippines has to win both to advance into round of 16. They will be facing Puerto Rico and Senegal. I am very impressed with the Filipino spirit. We maybe underdog, undersize or whatever, we are hell of a player. Win or Lose! It feels so proud because I know you are fighting until the last second of the game. Godbless Philippines. Goodluck Gilas Pilipinas.

4 THAILAND: CHATUCHAK, THE BIGGEST WEEKEND MARKET IN BANGKOK

Shoppers outside the Chatuchak Weekend Market.
We arrived just in time back in downtown Bangkok straight from Pattaya.  And since we still have time to go around the city we decided to go straight to Chatuchak Weekend Market rather than going back to hotel to check in. Also bus terminal is at Ekkamai Station that lies in Sukhumvit Line or Bearing-Mochit Line, it means it’ll just a straight ride going to Chatuchak via Mochit Station.

Chatuchak is the largest market in Thailand that is only open every Saturday and Sunday (obviously it’s a weekend market). The correct pronunciation will be “Jatujak” (จตุจักร), operation hours starting at 9AM until 6:00 in the evening.  This market is divided into 27 sections that sell all kind of items. And yes you heard it right “ALL KINDS OF ITEMS” at a cheapest price. That's why this place should pay a visit to buy souvenir items for your family and friends back home.

HOW TO GET THERE:
I would always recommend taking BTS Sky Train. Chatuchak Market is located in Mochit Station (N9), end station of Sukhumvit Line. If you have the BTS Train Map, just follow the yellow green line.

Another option is via Mass Rapid Transit Route or (MRT) started in Hua Lamphong to Bang Sue Station. Alight at Chatuchak Park station that is connected to this line. Again if you got the map, take a look at the blue line.

Arriving at Mochit Station, we have to walk few meters going to the market itself. And before you make it there, it's kinda troublesome. You'll have to kick into the crowd all coming from a different direction. You can see picture above. In addition, there are also different vendors that are selling variety of souvenir items right at the footpath. I’m sure you can’t stop checking it or even asking for a price. Though I would recommend to take a little patience and then start your bargaining skills at the center of Chatuchak.

Young Coconut for Sale for 40Baht to freshen up from a humid weather.
STREET FOOD
Your choice if you want to take something first to your stomach before heading to your extravagant shopping experience. There are street vendors piling outside the entrance.  I love their authentic street food, mostly are grilled and fried covered with spicy sauce. The taste never disappoints me, though I’m a guy that loves eating spicy food but the preparation itself is delicious. Must try!

I don't know what they call it, the crisp makes you like the taste.
This one is my favorite, it's like meatballs.
You have plenty of options, all in grilled.
AT THE MARKET
This marketplace has a wide selection of products. When I get there I really don’t know where to start or what to buy. Let’s start from furniture to handicrafts, from garments to accessories, and of course clothing. Thailand is known for a good quality of garments used for making apparels. In fact in the Philippines, if its Thailand made, should have the complacent of quality wise.

You can also buy Thai artifacts as your own souvenir. You can also find live animals there. Yikes, I don’t know if there are other words to use rather than anything and everything. Name it, we have it!

This is just an ideal place for your spending spree, prices are affordable and really worth your money. And also it depends on how you trim down the price; just show your bargaining power.

Artifacts at Chatuchak Market.
Some souvenir items. I bought coin purse detailed with an embossed elephant.
One of the Busy Street inside Chatuchak Market.
T-Shirt is my interests so I bought a lot here. Though price is little pricy at 250Baht but keep in mind there are stores selling the same size and design at a lower price. If in case they really insist with the price, then try buying two at a lower price then give them a charming smile. :D I’m sure, they’ll give it to you. Just be friendly and consider them as your friend.

When you are inside it will really give you a kind of experience. Have to expect of a little sizzling feeling because of the crowd. Honestly when I was there, I was so wet because of overflowing perspiration.

HERE ARE FEW TIPS:
  • Just wear comfortable clothing, shorts and shoes maybe. I don't recommend wearing slippers, because of the crowd might accidentally ruin your feet.
  • Have a bottle of water. I'm telling you it's really hot there especially in noon time where crowd starting to arrive.
  • Wear your bag in front of you, better safe than sorry. Our pickpocket friends are always there.
  • Be there as early as you can. Just to avoid getting fry
  • Bring sufficient money, there are no ATM machines there.
  • If you have one, bring a stroller bag.
In and out crowd inside Chatuchak Market.
Some Thailand Artifacts at Chatuchak Market.
Your Mexican Chef! Caramba.
Have some drinks first at one of these bars in the middle of Chatuchak Market.
If you feel really tired, then you have a choice if you want to have some drink once you’re done. It’s legal there. There’s a bar opened for you to accommodate patrons coming from a tiresome shopping spree. In fact, there are foreign and local shoppers dancing at the street to the beat of hard rock music while holding a bottle of beer. Or if you just want to take rest then you can go outside the complex and rest at Chatuchak Park.
